My 9 year old son and I visited the Stoneyfield lochs, July 16. Derek was an excellent and patient instructor for my son who was fly fishing for the first time. After instruction and practice my son caught his first rainbow trout - about 2 pounds! We caught 3 fish that day, one just over 3 pounds. An experienced fisherman could have caught more. A wonderful setting, perfectly suited to fly fishing, with lots of fish. Highly recommend for a truly unique experience if you are visiting the area. Thanks again, Derek and Pauline!

First time fishing Stoneyfield, but it certainly won’t be the last. All 3 lochs have something to offer any fly fisher, the whole area is kept immaculate, there are plenty of fish from 1.5 lbs upto the teens, and great advice on arrival from Pauline. I landed 7 fish on my first visit, thoroughly enjoyed the experience, would strongly recommend Stoneyfield to any angler

Always enjoy fishing here, trout in fine form today had 12 to net all released safely without handling or out of water, barbless hooks, small size 16 black Nat dry fly today, I appreciate all the work that goes in to making this fishery the best in the highlands, look forward to rest on season.

Our first experience in fly fishing. We had a really good introduction by Derrek and landed finally two big troits. Tilman a 850g and Bernd a Trout of 1350 g. It was a real fantastic and lovely day at the lochs. Thank you again!

Anytime I am up at my daughters (Culloden) I always make sure I fish here, the place is immaculately kept, the fish always first class of which there are many and run by the friendliest couple in Derek and Pauline. As long as I can cast a line I will always make sure of a visit whenever I'm up.

Wow! I can't thank Derek enough for his professional guidance, patience and help with introducing my two boys (9 and 11) to fly fishing and managing to catch two rainbow trouts. The grounds are wonderful, easy to find and plenty of parking. Thanks again Derek - you've certainly made our trip to Scotland a memorable one. Keep up the great work.

I have fished here several times now, the place is always immaculately kept, the fish are definitely there. Derek and Pauline could not be friendlier or more helpful. Derek will give of his time and experience to help you catch fish. This place is a haven of tranquillity and peace, all sorts of birds, beasts and more importantly insect life to be seen.TIGHT LINES

Visited Stoneyfield lochs on 10th April and introduced my son to fly fishing. A great location with plenty wildlife and well established woodland. Owner very friendly and helpful. My son caught his first trout on fly; a lovely rainbow about 1.5 lbs and he lost a few. He is hooked and is eager to return on Easter Friday! Will be returning myself on my next visit North.

Me and Martin's home from home, up North, booked our first trip for March. Derek keeps the three lochs in immaculate condition, the fish are pristine with some huge fish cruising all three lochs. If you like wild brownies this is the place for you. We love the whole Stoneyfield experience.

Three of us took part in " THE LAST CAST" competition and I have got to say what a day. The fishing was great, the buffet marvelous and the "patter" was brilliant. We certainly will be back as many times as possible next season to enjoy the great hospitality and of course the great fishing. Thanks again Derek and Pauline for making it is what it is.

I found this gem on Wednesday12th ofOCtober. 12 perfectly finned hard fighting fish in just over 5 hours on a sporting ticket. Friendly owners who were delighted to see an angler have a great session. If you want hidden corners variety and a perfectly laid out fishery do not drive past this one leave time to call in and have a cast you will not be disappointed.

Colin Stewart said on Jun 8, 2016 3:39 AM

Just back from a long weekend in Inverness and visited Stoneyfield (not for the first time) and as usual had a great day's fishing. The fishery just now is looking stunning due in no small part to Pauline and Derek's efforts in fact Derek was saying he was thinking of applying for a job as groundsman at Hampden once he perfected the method of getting the lines in the grass straight. A great fishery and great hospitality keep up the great work you two see you soon.

I was staying with my cousin (Richard Ormston) for a few weeks at Ardross. I spent 2 weeks with him, and we had a mixture of Salmon fishing and loch fishing for wild brownies. However the Salmon fishing was tough so we had 3 days at Stoneyfield, and what a pleasant surprise, the trout were free rising to dry hoppers and daddies. The lochs were beautiful and peaceful.3 great days.

Just returned from touring the Highlands. Stopped off at this delightful fishery and enjoyed some great sport. Given very helpful tips by Derek and Pauline and was pleased to land my first fish. Will definitly visit again to further our fly fishing experience. Lang mae yer lum reek. Next time perhaps we can share a whisky or two at the local pub.

Decided to extend the last day of our holiday by dropping in to the fishery. Could not have made a better decision. Having only started fly fishing that week and having fished loch Brora and the river Helmsdale (pan sized brownies) the sheer excitement of battling a 5lb rainbow in full flight is indescribable. To hook and land a superb specimen of fighting muscle made my, if not my husbands, holiday. Having met Pauline on arrival I felt I had to share my excitement with her and in doing so met Derek. What this lovely couple don't know about fish and their welfare is not worth bothering about. A perfect place with fabulous fighting fish, beautiful surroundings, peacock and other assorted wildlife,no litter and knowledgable, encouraging owners. Well worth a visit. Thanks P & D

Dear Derek I just wanted to thank you for a wonderful day on your wonderful Lochs. I had 3 hours to spare as a complete amateur and your welcome, advice, enthusiasm and help made it a great day. I can't tell you how much we (Kay sat in a chair reading and relaxing) enjoyed ourselves, topped off by a fantastic rainbow trout that put up a good fight and was a real beauty. I look forward to returning and spending some significant quality time with you again. You could not have made this Englishman more welcome and it was a great day, at a great place with wonderful weather and fish. Until the next time. Thank you. Tim and Kay

On holiday from London, we had three great days fishing. The lochs and grounds are fantastic and well maintained and there were a lot of fish moving and chasing sedge patterns. We had good sport with the small browns as well as the rainbows. We would recommend making some time to visit if you are on holiday in the area as it's a very relaxed and tranquil place.

A great days fishing today (26th May). Excellent sport and very hard fighting fish. My brother and I came away with two beautiful Rainbow Trout each. It poured with rain for most of the day but the well maintained lochs, grounds and bothy more than made up for the weather. We'll be back!

Hi Derek and Pauline, Elizabeth and I very much enjoyed our visit and know that if we can come to Scotland again we will fish your lochs again. They were very beautiful and I was very happy with my 3 pounder. It was the first time in about 12 years that I've used a nymph so thanks for your advice. I'm hoping to fish Tasmania in April. A chance visit yesterday was rewarded by a couple of hours in a peaceful place with some lovely fish. My second dish had zero fin damage and fought like a sea trout. I would say Derek and Pauline know a few things about fishing and also customer service. Exellent facilities and diversity in the fishing areas. Definitely worth a cast if you are in the area,

Although the weather was rough ( 45F and some sleet) Gene Zanella and I ( both from the Atlanta, GA area) had two great times fishing these beautuful bodies of water. Not being a fly fisherman it was a good learning expereince for me. Stoneyfield supplied the rods, flys, everything you would need - even a few trout which we returned to the lochs. Anyone interested in fishing should make a visit to this wonderful place!

Just got back from another visit to these well stocked lochans, Taking fish from 2lb thru 5lbs..Altho the weather was against the hardy angler this week the superb fishing more than made up for the many drenchings I received...The local anglers are a mine of information on fishing these lochs so do have a friendly word in their ear..I will be going back again very soon..

Stoneyfield is a lovely place to fish and Derek and Pauline are always so inviting and friendly to everyone that visits. Haven't made it this year yet as have been up to my eyes in work but have just ordered some new kit so it's on the cards for the next couple of weeks. As I am more of a sunbathing fisherman the weather better stay good haha.

Derek Hynd said on May 22, 2011 6:31 AM

Sorry it's taken so long to write this but I have to thank everyone at this lovely place for making me feel welcome and for this best fishing I have had in a long time. And I now have found a great place to fish now when I make the trip to the highlands.

Thanks to my wife who spotted the ad in the visiting Invergordon Booklet I much enjoyed three hours flyfishing during a visit by the cruise ship " Marco Polo " in early April. Whilst I had done some course fishing, fly fishing was something I had always wanted to try. Shortly after docking I was at Stoneyfields and quickly provided with rod, fly and landing net. A few minutes tuition and I was under way on a beautiful sunny morning. After about an hour the breeze dropped and the fish started rising. Mr Robertson very kindly arrived shortly afterwards with a change of fly which was "doing the business " and sure enough I soon hooked a very fine brown trout, but in turning to pick up the landing net I lost it. Never mind I had a most enjoyable morning and might just have been hooked myself.
